Plymouth has a long tradition as a Teaching Parish, assisting in the education and training of those called to Ministry. Seminarians and interns enrich the life of our congregation, bringing new energy and ideas, while gaining valuable experience in many aspects of ministry. Plymouth makes an effort to coordinate its pastoral needs with the needs and interests of the seminarian. Past seminarians and interns have contributed to Plymouth by: · helping to institute and lead women’s retreats, · preaching and leading worship including, with permission of the diaconate, administering the sacraments of baptism and communion, · providing adult Christian education courses, · counseling parishioners, · helping to plan and lead our fellowship series for older members of the church, and ·
helping to plan and
lead our program for high school youth. Our 2009-2011 intern was Ellen Rohan Ball, a student at Andover Newton Theological Seminary (ANTS) and a student in care of the Metropolitan Boston Association (MBA). Other seminarians from recent years include Kathleen Kopitsky, William Main, Rev. Dr. Marian Williams, Lella Baker, Rev. Patrice Ficken, Rev. Lael Atkinson, and Rev. Benjamin Davis. While not all of our seminarians matriculate at Andover Newton Theological School, we have a special relationship with that institution. Samuel Abbot Professor of Christian Theology at ANTS, S. Mark Heim, was a past seminarian at Plymouth. Former member of Plymouth Church, Rev. Amanda Howland, graduated from ANTS and was ordained at Plymouth. Member Heather Lucas graduated from ANTS in May of 2010 and is currently in care at Plymouth and in the ordination process with the MBA. Diana Donahue, a member also in care at Plymouth, received her M.Div. from ANTS and is currently working as a Chaplain in a hospital pediatric unit. |
